I would like to wish Property Week readers all the best for the festive season and hope that it is filled with good company, good food and Christmas cheer.

December is always pretty busy for lenders, real estate agents and conveyancers as property settlements are rushed forward to be completed before Christmas. The rush is almost over and traditionally January will be a quiet month. After the Christmas roast has been digested and the antacid tablets have done their job, maybe it’s time to reflect on the year just gone and consider your plans for the year ahead, financially speaking. What did you achieve this year? What do you want to achieve next year? If property acquisition is in your sights, then why not start on your plan now? Begin with a bit of a broad brush philosophy initially and then get down to specifics a little later. Establishing a budget is probably one of the most important things to work on. The term ‘budget’ is not a negative one, nor does it imply financial limitations. It is like creating a road map to your financial future. By working things out in advance you will be much better prepared for the year ahead
